Welcome to the world of design, where creativity, luxury, and smart solutions come together to make your living space truly unique. If you're feeling lost and unsure about where to begin, don't worry - you're not alone. 2020 was a year of major revelations, and it's time to learn from the good, the bad, and the ugly. It's time to choose YOU and make your design dreams a reality.
As a successful black female designer, I know what it takes to create a life that is truly fulfilling. It's not about waiting for someone else to sweep you off your feet - it's about tapping into your own energy and making things happen. And let me tell you, it's not easy. While celebrities may have a team of people to help them manage their lives, most of us have to do it all on our own. But with a little bit of inspiration and a lot of fabulous design tips, you can create the home of your dreams. My own journey began with a phone call from Lumi, filled with excitement and the promise of a new opportunity. Without hesitation, I packed up my life and my daughter's and headed to California. It wasn't easy, but it was worth it. And now, as a successful designer and mother, I want to help others achieve their own design dreams.
So, if you're feeling lost, unsure, or just in need of a little inspiration, look no further than Introspective Design.
The Big Move
With three months left before the big move, I spent countless hours researching the best neighborhoods, schools, and job opportunities in California. I was determined to make the best out of this new chapter in my life. The first thing on my list was finding a suitable place to live. After days of endless searching, Fortunately, we (my boyfriend now husband) were given a charming apartment in the heart of Los Angeles. The apartment had a vintage feel to it, with hardwood floors, crown moldings, and an abundance of natural light. It was the perfect blank canvas to unleash my creativity and bring my design dreams to life.
Once we moved in, I wasted no time in transforming the space into our new home. I started with the basics: a fresh coat of paint, new curtains, and a few furniture pieces that I had brought with me from Indiana. I then began to incorporate unique design elements that reflected my personal style and taste. I created an accent wall with wallpaper that had a bold, geometric pattern and added a gallery wall with framed art prints that I had collected over the years.
The end result was nothing short of amazing. Our new apartment had transformed into a space that was not only functional but also reflected our personalities and style. Walking into our home after a long day felt like a breath of fresh air. It was a space that we were proud to call our own.
I realized that I had a talent for creating beautiful spaces and wanted to help others achieve the same feeling of joy and pride in their own homes. Thus, Introspective Design was born.
Starting over AGAIN....
Introspective Design was born but.... Did you forget something? No connections, no projects, little money, and no prospects. All I had was a design degree and a dream. But I refused to let my circumstances define me. I started to network and connect with people in the design industry, attended events, and took on small projects to build my portfolio. Eventually, my hard work and determination paid off, and I landed my first big contract with a high-end design studio.
From that moment on, my design journey took off. I worked with clients all over California, designing luxurious and stylish spaces that reflected their unique personalities and lifestyles. I learned that design is not just about creating a beautiful space, but also about understanding the needs and desires of the client and bringing their vision to life.
Moreover, taking a chance on myself and making the big move to California was the best decision I ever made. It allowed me to discover my passion for interior design and start my own business. If you're feeling stuck in your current situation, I encourage you to take a chance on yourself too. You never know what amazing things could happen if you do. And if you need help transforming your living space into a reflection of your personal style and taste, don't hesitate to reach out to Introspective Design for a consultation.
Closing Thoughts
If there's one thing that I've learned throughout my design journey, it's that taking a risk and stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to incredible opportunities and growth. By choosing to pursue my passion and follow my dreams, I've been able to create a career that I'm truly passionate about.
